Engaging Faculty                       

Fr. Bill Lies, CSC, Ph.D.

This session will explore ways of engaging faculty in a discussion on and the commitment for Catholic social tradition. Further, it will consider the challenge of integrating CST coursework throughout the curriculum.

Engaging the World, Learning the World: Research and Assessment of Student Development via Civic Participation

Jay Brandenberger, Ph.D.

What do students learn about the world, social concerns, and themselves through civic participation? How are their ethical frameworks and faith perspectives influenced? This session will explore means of assessing such questions, drawing from the University of Notre Dame’s research initiatives in a collaborative session.

Community Partnerships

Annie Cahill Kelly, MA, and Debra Stanley

Community partnerships are essential in establishing effective service learning programs. This session will explore critical elements of successful relationships, as well as highlight a particular partnership model.

Notre Dame faculty will reflect on integrating community engagement into courses and programs.

Students reflect on the ways they have integrated CST into  their service learning experiences.

Community Based Research                       

Mary Beckman, Ph.D.

CBR is research undertaken at the request of not-for-profit community organizations that do not have the capacity to do this themselves. This session will explore ways of accomplishing this within academic coursework.

Theological Reflection                       

Andrea Smith Shappell, M.A.

This working session will discuss multiple models of theological reflection that are used in service-learning courses, including pastoral theology and the praxis model of social analysis.

Summer Service Learning Workshop

Sue Cunningham, M.Ed.

This session will share ideas regarding opportunities for academic service learning during summer months integrating faith-related course material.
