Andrea Smith Shappell, M.A.

Andrea Smith Shappell is Director of Summer Service Learning Programs at the Center for Social Concerns. In this position, she is responsible for the administration of the Summer Service Learning Program (SSLP), ACCION and other summer opportunities for students. The SSLP is a three credit course in Theology which includes an eight week service experience. She is an Associate Professional Specialist in the Institute for Church Life, concurrent in Theology. She also serves on the U.S. Board of the Henri Nouwen Society as Secretary.

Previously, Smith Shappell was the Director of Senior Transition Programs at the Center for Social Concerns.

Smith Shappell graduated from Notre Dame in 1979 with a degree in American Studies and returned for a Masters degree in Theology in 1985. Since 1981, she has served in a variety of positions at the Center for Social Concerns. Prior to her work at the Center, Smith Shappell worked for Catholic Charities in Gary, IN in the area of Family Ministry. With her husband, Brian, she served with the Social Apostolate in New Orleans in 1980-81.
